VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of February 9th)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring an additional 2 Middle School Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Teegan Simmons and Xander Walle (8th grade boys basketball) for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their coach had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

"Teegan is as resilient as they come. Last year he was sidelined with a foot injury- this year he has worked so hard to improve his all around game. Recently, he spearheaded the attack in knocking off an undefeated John Glenn team. Teegan will excel at anything he puts his mind to in high school!"

"Xander is a true team player- he does the dirty work under the rim each game and has grown so much in every facet of his game. He is always inquiring about how to improve and has mastered his role. I look forward to watching Xander compete in high school sports!"

"Louis is the type of player every coach wants on their team. He is the epitome of a "team first" athlete. Louis does all the little things to help our team succeed. 🌪️🌊 8th Grade Science in Action! 🏗️🧪 Our 8th grade scientists became natural disaster mitigation engineers this week! Using simple materials like craft sticks, play dough, foil, paper towels, and plastic containers, students designed and tested structures built to withstand floods, earthquakes, and hurricanes. After an initial disaster test, teams analyzed what failed, redesigned their models with real-world mitigation strategies (like levees, reinforced structures, and raised foundations), and tested again to see how engineering solutions can reduce damage—not stop disasters, but lessen their impact. This hands-on challenge encouraged problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking while connecting science learning to real-world applications! A special thanks to Jacob Vasquez donating so much Play-Doh!!!
