Science never tasted so good! 🍦 After learning about molecule motion and energy, Ms. Simons' class put it to the test by making ice cream—shaking, laughing, and watching science happen right before their eyes. Cold hands, big smiles, and lots of delicious learning today! 😄🧪

VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK OF DECEMBER 8TH)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring five Viking Athletes of the Week from the week of December 8th. Congratulations to 7th grade volleyball player Valicia Ramirez and 8th grade volleyball players Maci Wilson , Harper Wagner, Maggie Kennelly, and Cam Kornecky for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

"Viking Athlete of the Week goes to Valicia Ramirez! Valicia is recognized for her heart and hustle on the court and her strong competitive spirit. She brings intensity to every match and never lets a ball drop without giving her best effort to dig it. Her volleyball knowledge continues to grow, and her athleticism truly sets her apart. Valicia is steady, dependable, and always gives 100% in everything she does. No one has more heart and hustle than Valicia...she never backs down from a challenge."

"Maci has earned the Libero position this year and has been instrumental in conducting the defense from the back row. Her passing and leadership have been instrumental in the team's success this season!"

"Harper is a standout volleyball player who has developed positive leadership skills throughout the season. Her commitment to the game is unmatched and she has been great all around as she leads the team in digs and kills this season!"

"Maggie has showed selflessness all season and desire to get better in every facet of her game. In the tournament this past weekend, Maggie had 52 kills and 28 serving points- she propelled her team to the championship victory against many of the larger schools in the area!"

"Cam's season has not been easy at times, however, she has always maintained a positive attitude and a team first mentality. This past weekend, everything clicked for Cam- in the final set of the Championship, the SV VB team found themselves down 14-8 in a game to 15. Cam served 6 pressure-packed serves with ease and with help from her teammates, they won 15-14. Cam truly has ice in her veins!"

Viking Pride!

The middle school FIRST Tech Challenge team (19250) visited Swan Haven Manor last night and presented to the residents about robotics. They played catch and taught them how to drive the robot. Great to see our young students interacting across generations with our seniors!

Congratulations to the Swan Valley Middle School FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team (19250) on their outstanding performance at the FTC State Championship at Grand Blanc High School. The team finished 9th in their division, was team captain of the 6th alliance , but was eliminated in the second round of the championship brackets. The team also earned an invitation to a premier event in the summer of 2026.

Overall, the 2025 season was the teams best performance to date, including their first appearance at the State Championship! Great Job!

The 8th Grade Swan Valley Viking Volleyball teams participated in the Midland Middle School Tournament this past weekend. There were 8 teams in the A division and 8 teams in the B division- mainly bigger schools from around the Central Michigan area. The A team cruised through bracket play by beating Northeast, White Pine, and SASA Middle Schools convincingly. In bracket play they dominated Mt. Pleasant and Bay City Western Middle Schools to make it to the championship against Midland Jefferson. These undoubtedly were two of the best middle school teams in the area. It was a powerful battle, but ultimately the Vikings fell to take home second place! 🥈 Harper Wagner was unbelievable all day in serving, defense, and attacking. She totaled 40 kills on the weekend! Ryelle Thompson, Maci Wilson, Kendall Palmer, Bella Looby, Evelyn Miller, Grace Horney, Maeva Sobol, and McKenna Miller were alll key factors all day for the Vikings! The B team also cruised through bracket play by beating Northeast, White Pine, and SASA Middle Schools with ease. In Bracket play, they beat Mt Pleasant, beat Northeast 2-1, and then made it to the championship against Midland Jefferson. In the final, the Vikings took the first set but lost set 2. The Vikings found themselves down 14-8 when Mr. Brady called the last timeout. After, the Vikings broke serve, and then a legend was born. Cam Kornecky served 6 pressure packed serves without a miss. The last point was a back and forth battle that saw Maggie Kennelly finishing the set with a power kill- which won the championship for the vikings, 15-14! The team erupted in jubilation in what will be remembered for years as an improbable championship comeback! 🥇 Maggie Kennelly registered 52 kills on the weekend while Mia Castillo was excellent in assists and back row play every game. Piper Sova, Addy Larkin, Aubrey Allore, Alayna Metiva, Gia Roadrte, Kenley Townsend, Colleen Conley, and Hailee Bostwick also chipped in all weekend! After the weekend, the two teams improve to 29-2 combined! The Viking A and B teams are back in action tonight against Frankenmuth and against Alma on Wednesday to conclude the season. The future of SV Volleyball is bright ☀️

🪨🍬🎅We had a JOLLY good time in 8th grade science today! 🍬🪨🎅 Today, students turned Jolly Ranchers into rocks to model the rock cycle 🔁 ➡️ Shaken in jars = sediment ➡️ Pressed with textbooks to provide pressure = metamorphic rocks ➡️ Heated up (safely!) to model igneous rocks Science was sweet, hands-on, and full of crushing pressure today 💪📚 Proof that learning Earth science can be colorful, creative, and deliciously memorable!
