6th grade Science students wrapped up their Paper Roller Coaster Project this week! 🎢 After days of designing, building, testing, and problem-solving, we celebrated some fun awards for longest coast and best theme/decorations. Check out some of our winners and a peek at the action in the video below!

Rubik’s Cubes are a blast to solve and are not nearly as hard as you might think. When they were invented in the 1970s, people often became so frustrated that they would peel the stickers off and rearrange them by hand. Today, however, solvers know that the cube can be solved by using algorithms — specific patterns of moves that help place pieces in the correct spots without messing up the rest of the cube.

Solving a Rubik’s Cube connects directly to math and problem-solving skills. Cubers must recognize patterns, think critically, follow step-by-step procedures, and learn from mistakes when a strategy does not work. Just like in math, solving the cube requires patience, logical thinking, and perseverance. Each turn is part of a larger plan, showing how breaking a difficult problem into smaller steps can lead to success.

Havens Elementary is launching a brand-new rookie team to compete in the FIRST Lego League BIOGLOW season!
Swan Valley Middle School is building a brand-new FIRST Tech Challenge practice field to gear up for the BIOBUZZ season!

From elementary building blocks to high school heavy-hitters, our students now have a complete pathway to STEM pathways in engineering, coding, and innovation.

While some classmates explored Washington, D.C., our “Saginaw D.C.” crew stayed busy making memories right here in Michigan! 💜🖤 Students enjoyed an amazing day touring SVSU, exploring campus, and participating in fun activities together. We also traveled to the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth where students enjoyed a delicious family-style chicken dinner with all the fixings, learned a traditional German song, and even got hands-on making fresh pretzels from dough balls! 🥨🥨🥨 From college and career exploration to cultural experiences and lots of laughs, our students had a fantastic time together and represented Swan Valley so well. We are proud of our Vikings for making the most of every opportunity! 🖤💜

🌱 Swan Valley 6th Grade STEM students are getting their hands dirty and growing something amazing! 🪴 Our STEM classes have officially started planting our school garden, and students have been working hard learning about gardening, sustainability, planning, and teamwork. From vegetables to flowers and root crops, each section is taking ownership of different parts of the garden and helping bring this project to life. A huge THANK YOU to Kluck’s Nursery & Landscaping for generously donating peat soil to help our plants get the best start possible, and to Home Depot for providing garden tags to help organize and label each section of the garden. Your support helps create meaningful hands-on learning experiences for our students! 🌼🥕🌽 We can’t wait to watch the garden — and our students — continue to grow this spring!

VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of May 4th...)

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring 2 more Middle School Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Gabby Katz (MS Girls Track) and Connor Charboneau (MS Boys Track) for earning this prestigious award!

"Gabby has the spirit like no one else I have seen. When she sets her mind to something she sees it through until she reaches her goal! She is a fun filled spirit to have on this track team. I am very proud of her accomplishments this season in being our gap filler!"

"I would like to recognize Connor Charboneau for his stellar performance and relentless work ethic. Connor is one of the hardest-working athletes I’ve ever coached, consistently putting in extra time and effort to improve every day. His dedication and commitment were on full display at Thursday’s meet, where he broke three school records in the 4x800 relay, 1600-meter run, and 3200-meter run. Connor’s perseverance, leadership, and drive truly reflect the Viking Athletic Core Values."
