Friday, in 8th Grade Science, students got hands-on with the rock cycle! 🪨🤘🪨 Students shaved crayons to represent sediments, compacted them to form sedimentary rocks, added heat and pressure to create metamorphic rocks, and finally melted them down to form igneous rocks. To top it off, they got to take their rock-cycle crayons home to color with — a fun reminder that Earth’s materials are always changing! 🌎✨

💜🔬 SVMS Chief Science Officers at SVSU! 🔬💛 Today our Chief Science Officers attended the Winter Cabinet Meeting at Saginaw Valley State University — and what an incredible day it was! Students explored STEM career sessions across campus, diving into fields like psychology, occupational therapy, business, science, education, and more. They had the opportunity to learn directly from professionals, ask questions, and begin envisioning their own future pathways. We are especially proud of our own CSO leader, Piper Sova, who hosted a session on networking and professionalism — representing Swan Valley with confidence, leadership, and poise! In the afternoon, our team collaborated on our spring action plan to help revive and enhance our school courtyard — bringing student voice and innovation back to our campus. It was a day full of leadership, learning, and Viking pride. Once a Viking, Always a Viking! 💜💛 #SVMSVikings #ChiefScienceOfficers #StudentLeadership #STEMinAction #FutureLeaders

VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of February 9th)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring an additional 2 Middle School Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Teegan Simmons and Xander Walle (8th grade boys basketball) for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their coach had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

"Teegan is as resilient as they come. Last year he was sidelined with a foot injury- this year he has worked so hard to improve his all around game. Recently, he spearheaded the attack in knocking off an undefeated John Glenn team. Teegan will excel at anything he puts his mind to in high school!"

"Xander is a true team player- he does the dirty work under the rim each game and has grown so much in every facet of his game. He is always inquiring about how to improve and has mastered his role. I look forward to watching Xander compete in high school sports!"

Viking Pride!
