It was a great week of 8th grade Volleyball after the extended break. The B team improved to 7-0 after beating Freeland and Bridgeport. The team was led by Vivienne Ardouin's back row play and Cayla Pagano's exceptional front row performance. The A team improved to 6-1 after beating Freeland in all three sets. Norah Jennings was a force at the net and Olivea Hernandez's serving and blocking prowess was on full display. Both teams are back in action Monday home against John Glenn. Before the game is our annual 6th grade Volleyball Night where 6th graders get to practice and receive instruction from our 8th grade team members. Any girl that attends will get free entry into Mondays games and receive free pizza and soda!

On Monday, December 2, Swan Valley's A and B volleyball teams faced off against the Freeland Falcons after a long Thanksgiving break. With coming off an extended break, there was uncertainty about how the teams would perform, but both squads came out strong, proving they hadn’t skipped a beat. The night started with the Swan Valley B team, who set the tone early. They won the first set, 25-12, and followed up with a solid 25-18 victory in the second set. In the final set, however, they came up just short, losing 25-19. Despite the loss, the match was filled with exciting rallies and strong play from both teams. Grace Horny led the way for Swan Valley B, contributing 14 serving points, while Piper Sova added 8. Grace was also effective at the net, contributing a couple of tips for kills. The B team demonstrated excellent teamwork and communication throughout the match, a key takeaway for the night. The Swan Valley A team took to the court next and quickly displayed their dominance. They won the first set 25-5, with sharp serving, solid net play, and excellent back-row passing. However, the second set proved to be a challenge. After losing their momentum due to a few missed serves, the Vikings found themselves down by 10 points but managed to rally. Despite their best efforts, they lost the second set with a 27-26 finish, falling short due to the capped score. The Vikings bounced back in the final set, securing a 25-17 win and the overall victory against the Falcons. Addison Ball was a standout performer, leading the team with 15 serving points, while Harper Wagner contributed 11. Wagner also led the team in kills, and Evelyn Miller excelled in setting up plays, finishing with the most assists. McKenna Miller also made her mark with a great block at the net that had the crowd roaring in excitement. Both teams displayed strong performances against tough competition, making for an exciting and action-packed night of volleyball. The B team hit the road to Bridgeport on Wednesday and swept all 3 sets: 25-9, 25-13, and 25-7. Many girls contributed serving including Grace Horny, Brooke Stoney, and Gia Rodarte. We closed the week with an unexpected snow day... followed by a great practice and team dinner with the 8th graders. The A team remains undefeated at 7-0. The B team is now 6-1 and with just two weeks left in the season, the Vikings are in great form heading into the final stretch.
