🚀 STEM on Wheels Came to Swan Valley Middle School! 🌎🔬💡
Our 8th grade science students had an incredible opportunity exploring the Delta College STEM Explorer Bus – a 38-foot mobile STEM space packed with the latest technologies! Thanks to the generosity of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, this program brings STEM careers to life for students across the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Students rotated through tons of fun, hands-on stations to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and math, including:
🤖 Robotic Arm Arcade Crane (Mechatronics & Programming)
🛸 Drone Cage (Commercial Drone Operations)
🔬 Microscopes (Biology & Chemistry)
🖨️ 3D Printers & Pens (CAD)
💡 Snap Circuits (Electrician Skills)
⚙️ CNC Machine (Manufacturing & Design)
🧩 Rubik’s Cube Algorithm Solvers (Mathematics)
👅 Super Taster Genetic Test (Biology)
🎢 Marble Run (Engineering)
🕶️ VR Headsets (Health Science Careers)
Our students had a STEM-tastic day exploring future career possibilities and discovering how exciting innovation can be. 🌟

🌙✨ Learning is SWEET in 8th Grade Science! ✨🌙
8th graders modeled the phases of the Moon using none other than… OREOS! 🍪🌕 Students carefully “carved” out each phase, from New Moon to Full Moon, and everything in between. This hands-on (and delicious!) activity helped them see the cyclic patterns of lunar phases in action.
Way to go, future astronomers—your learning is out of this world! 🚀🌌
7th grade HOOPS ! - SV - that's our town :) The lady vikings traveled to Ithaca and won, 33-7! Fantastic plays by Gabby Katz - 10 points & 5 boards. Also, Harper Quellet had 6 point and 6 boards ! They are back in action on Monday to play the rival - Freeland at home. See you there !
🌍✨ Why do we have seasons? ✨🌎
Mrs. Blaesser’s 8th-grade scientists explored this question by modeling the tilt of Earth’s axis and discovering how it affects the amount of sunlight different parts of our planet receive throughout the year. ☀️🌎❄️🌸 Students rotated Earth models around a “sun” and saw firsthand how the 23.5° tilt creates changing seasons. From summer’s direct rays to winter’s slanted sunlight, they brought science to life through hands-on learning and collaboration! We are so proud of their curiosity and STEM-azing effort! 🌟
8th grade HOOPS - The 8th grade girl's Basketball Team beat Alma 54-23 ! Once again, the girls were locked in and played tough. Top hustlers were Maeva Sobol and Ryelle Thompson :)
7th grade HOOPS- 48-11 win !! Valicia Ramirez and Milly Garcia set the tone defensively while Gabby Katz and Kennedy Felsing finished with 10 points a piece to pace the offense :)

🌙✨ Our 8th-grade scientists in Mrs. Blaesser’s class have been busy identifying and modeling the phases of the Moon! From waxing crescents to waning gibbous, students practiced recognizing each phase and explaining how the positions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun create the patterns we see in the night sky. 🌍🌖☀️
We are thrilled to announce our Student Council Members for the 2025-2026 school year! 🙌 Big ideas are brewing, and together we’re ready to make SVMS an even more awesome place to learn, grow, and thrive. Stay tuned for all the amazing things ahead! 💡✨
