The SV 8th grade girls Volleyball season ended with a thrilling week. We started by having our Havens Volleyball Night where we had 40 girls play with our 8th grade players. After we played our rival Frankenmuth. The B team capped off an undefeated season by winning both of their matches of the week. Zoe Ecker and Rylie Nachtweih led the way serving while Aeris Hickey, Vivienne Ardouin, and Cayla Pagano were excellent on the court all night. The B team then also defeated Alma on Wednesday this week and were led by Shae Daly, Izzy Nadolny and Kennedy Paige on the court! The A team had an epic three set match that was back and forth, but ultimately saw the Vikings lose 2-1 to the Eagles. The team played great on the court, but were unable to overcome their 19 serving errors. Stella Frantz and Gabby Miller stepped up in huge ways at the net. The Vikings ended their season by defeating Alma and were led by Clara Irvine, Brooke Bartrum, and Kyra Ortner with their fierce serving and net play. The Vikings A team ended the year 9-2. After the games in Alma, girls were treated with a stop at McDonalds in St. Louis. Their staff was so friendly and prompt with their service. Also a huge thanks to Mr. Houthoofd for running our in between set games on Monday for the student body. Good luck to all our Viking 8th graders during their HS volleyball journey!

This weeks 8th Grade Volleyball Recap: It was a great week playing at home for both the A and B teams. The SV 8th Grade B team improved to 9-0 by beating John Glenn and Hemlock this week. The game against John Glenn was hotly contested with the Vikings just barely squeaking out the first two sets. Shelby Mercer was serving fire- totaling 8 aces and 11 overall serving points. Captain Vivienne Ardouin was her usual cool self in the back as libero- totaling 15 digs and excellent passing all night. Yesterday the Vikings cruised past Hemlock's B team. Clara Irvine led the way with 13 serving points and 5 digs. Lilly Garza brought the heat at the net and at the serving line, which paved the way for the Viking B team to remain undefeated. The SV 8th Grade A team improved to 8-1 with a revenge date against Frankenmuth looming. The games against John Glenn were again very close, but the Vikings did manage to take the first two sets. Captain Ava Stroud was her usual springy self- collecting 15 digs, 7 assists and 5 serving points. Stella Frantz made the transition to middle look seamless with a couple blocks, 3 net points, and 10 serving points. Yesterday, the A team cruised past Hemlock A by taking the first two sets. Ava Stroud brought the hammer serve and racked up 11 aces and 4 digs. Brooke Bartrum also chipped in with smooth serving and some good overall play. Heading into the final week of play, the 8th grade volleyball teams have a combined record of 17-1. Both teams will take on the Eagles from Frankenmuth on Monday, December 16th. We have several activities going on that night. First, we have our Havens Volleyball Night- see attached flyer. We then have our Eagle Taco Night to ramp up student support for our last home games of the season- see attached flyer. On Thursday next week, we will have our last event which is our Staff vs. 8th Grade Volleyball match- see attached flyer. Go Vikings!

Volleyball Recap: Swan Valley 7th Grade Teams Sweep John Glenn and Hemlock On Monday, Dec. 9, the Swan Valley 7th Grade A and B volleyball teams hit the road to take on John Glenn, and both squads came away with impressive victories. The B team started their match with a close first set, but quickly found their rhythm and took control in the following two. The final scores were 25-23, 25-15, and 25-15, as they swept the match 3-0. Grace Horny led the way with strong serving, while Addy Larkin and Lucy Vlassis also contributed significant points. Kenley Townsend and Cameryn Kornecky each had a kill, and Mia Castillo’s solid defense in the back row helped secure the win. The A team followed suit with a dominant performance, winning all three sets with scores of 25-6, 25-10, and 25-10. Harper Wagner was the standout server with 10 points, and Evelyn Miller added 8 more. Maeva Sobol and Ryelle Thompson also contributed 12 points combined. Wagner, Addison Ball, and McKenna Miller were unstoppable at the net, finishing with 12 kills between them. The setters – Thompson, Sobol, Wagner, and Miller – all played crucial roles in the offense with assists. Maci Wilson anchored the back row with her defensive digs, ensuring the team maintained control throughout the match. After practice Tuesday, the teams fueled up on pancakes and sausage with the 8th graders for once last team bonding. The pancakes must have provided them some serious power because they approached Wednesday's on a whole new level. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Vikings faced a tough Hemlock team, but the Swan Valley B team remained focused and clinched all three sets, 25-12. The match showcased the team’s improvement in serving, setting, and overall competitive play. Horny led the B team with 22 serving points, while Gia Rodarte delivered her best performance of the season with 15 serving points. Vlassis showed great progress at the net, while Piper Sova gained confidence in setting. Kornecky, Bostwick, and Townsend each contributed a kill. The A team mirrored the B team’s success, demonstrating excellent teamwork and hustle throughout the match. Addison Ball led with 13 serving points, and the net play was dominant, with Wagner contributing 6 kills, followed by Miller with 4 more. Other key contributors at the net included Ball, Maggie Kennelly, Miller, and Sobol. Ryelle Thompson delivered her best game in the back row, digging up nearly every ball that came her way, while Evelyn Miller’s smooth setting hands led the team in assists. As the season nears its end, the Swan Valley Vikings, with a combined record of 17-1, head into their final week of play. Next week, they will face Frankenmuth and Alma on the road, looking to continue their dominant run before the season wraps up.
