The SVMS Boys track team got off on the right foot last night in a Quad meet at Freeland. The Vikings beat Frankenmuth 102-25. They beat Carrollton 84-44 and they lost to Freeland 63-70. JJ Gomez and Fischer Stoney took first and second in the 200M hurdles while JJ also took second in the 55M hurdles. Many outstanding individual performances, but more importantly a great team performance and they will be hungry for more at next week's meet at Birch Run!!!............................................
The SVMS girls also had an awesome night! The Vikings beat Carrollton 102-18, and Frankenmuth 86-37, and came up short against Freeland. Win or lose, the girls gave it everything they had! The girls took 1st in the 4x100M relay (Rethman, Krantz, Hartley, Frantz) and 4x400M relay (Smith, Beckman, Krantz, Hartley). Stella Frantz took 1st in the 70M dash, and Alexis Smith took 1st in long jump. Shout out to 7th grader Logun Abram, he earned his Black Belt in Taekwondo on Sunday Feb. 11, 2024. He had to run 2 miles in less than19 minutes, do 50 push-ups, climb a rope up and down twice, wall sits for 2 minutes, isometrics for 2 minutes. Spar 1 on 1, Pankration, and then Spar 2 Black Belts against him. He broke 4 adult boards with a flying side kick and broke 2 adult boards with a knife strike with his hand. He had to know multiple kicking, punching, and self defense techniques. He also had to memorize over 50 korean words, and the Taekwondo Creed. It was a grueling 5+ hour long test. Only Only 2% of students who start as a white belt, will become a Black Belt.

The 7th Grade Viking Boys Basketball teams were back in action this week against Alma and Ithaca. The B team started the week off with a thrilling game that saw Jameson Malacos hit a game-tying buzzer beater to force overtime. Unfortunately, the Panthers outlasted the Viking B team 39-38. The Viking B team was led by Colten Ray who recorded a Double- Double with 17 pts and 11 rebs. The Viking A team was tested by the Alma A team, but prevailed 41-38 in part to Sawyer Murphy's 19 pts and 14 rebounds. Mason Wilson also played a pivotal role with stellar defense and 6 clutch points which propelled the Viking A team to victory.
On Wednesday, the YellowJackets of Ithaca came to SVMS and were stymied by the both 7th Grade Viking teams. The B team won 40-24 thanks in part to a three- headed monster- Carmelo Casas, Ryder Root, and Maurice Villegas who all scored around 10 points. This improved the B team to 3-2 on the season. The Viking A team dominated from start to finish 54-31, they were led by Matthew Moeller who had 20 pts and 18 rebounds and Griffin Beougher who led the point exquisitely. The win moved the Viking A team to 7-1 on the season.
Also a huge thanks to our 30 6th graders who participated in 6th Grade Boys Basketball Night. The event was a huge success as the young boys went through drills, scrimmages, and games with support from our older players in the program. After playing, all of them were given complimentary pizza/soda and were able to support our Viking 7th grade teams for free.
Go Vikings!
