VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of February 23rd)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring two Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Gabby Price and Cadence Raymond (JV Girls Basketball) for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their coach had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

"This season, Gabby has exhibited a positive and uplifting attitude on a daily basis. Her positive attitude and energy spreads to teammates. In addition to that, Gabby has had a great year as a freshman. Her 3 point shooting was key in several games this year and a few of those games resulted in her being the top scorer. More important is her work ethic. Gabby never gets down on herself and is always looking to improve."

"Cadence has made significant improvements this year as a basketball player. She gives 100 percent effort on the floor whether in practice or in the game. If you need rebounds, you can always count on Cadence. She often outrebounds girls much taller than her and isn't afraid to be aggressive to get those rebounds. She is also an incredibly hard worker in practice which is why she has improved so much."

Our Lady Vikings traveled to Jackson to compete in states for bowling today at Jax 60. Isabella Haley finished the day in 31st with the pin total of 966. She was only 85 pins away from making the cut. Ella Holnagel finished the day in 45th with a pin total of 917. Ella also bowled her highest game of the season with a 211.

We are very proud of all the hard work these two girls put in during the season to make it to states. I can wait to see what happens next year with these two working on their bowling in the off-season.

I am very proud of all my bowlers this season. We had a lot of ups and downs but we still stuck together as a team and never gave up. I also have to thank all the parents for all their help during the season.

The Swan Valley JV Girls Basketball team closed out their season in impressive fashion this week, earning two decisive wins over the Valley Lutheran Chargers and the Garber Dukes to finish the year strong. In the first matchup against Valley Lutheran, the Lady Vikings delivered a dominant defensive performance and turned up the intensity offensively in the second half. After setting the tone early on defense, Swan Valley exploded after halftime to pull away. Olivia Randall led the offensive charge with an outstanding 22 points while also creating havoc on defense with 7 steals. Alaina Lafond added 9 points to support the scoring effort, and Poppy Weyand was a force defensively, racking up 8 steals. The girls’ defensive pressure and balanced scoring powered them to a commanding 54–26 victory. In their final game of the season against Garber, the Lady Vikings put together one of their most complete performances of the year. Swan Valley played four strong quarters of basketball, showing poise, teamwork, and consistent effort on both ends of the floor. Poppy Weyand led the way with 16 points and 8 steals, while Olivia Randall contributed 10 points and controlled the boards with 9 rebounds. Alaina Lafond once again reached double figures with 10 points, helping secure the 51–33 win. With the two victories, the Lady JV Vikings wrapped up an outstanding season with a 16–4 record.

VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of February 16th)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring two Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Greer Diefenbach (Varsity Girls Basketball) and Olivia Randall (JV Girls Basketball) for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

"Greer consistently puts in the work, giving full effort in both practices and games. Over the past year, she’s made great strides on the defensive end—maintaining her intensity while doing a better job of staying out of foul trouble. Her overall understanding of the game has continued to grow, and she’s embraced her role on the team. She plays with great energy and enthusiasm, and when she comes off the bench, she provides an immediate spark that positively impacts the entire team."

"Olivia has been asked all season to play a huge role for our team. Olivia is like another coach on the floor and has really grown as a player this year. This past week, she had two dominant performances controlling the games and was the leading scorer in both games this week. More importantly her effort, hustle, and overall commitment to this team and her teammates is unmatched."

The Swan Valley JV girls basketball team put together another impressive week, earning two hard-fought victories over Alma High School and cross-town rival Freeland High School. In their first matchup against Alma, the Vikings battled through a slow start in the opening half. Despite the early offensive struggles, the girls stayed composed and came out of halftime with renewed energy and focus. Key assists from Norah Jennings sparked the offense, while Olivia Randall’s leadership and smart decision-making set the tone for the turnaround. Swan Valley dominated the second half on both ends of the floor to secure a 35-25 victory. Olivia Randall led the scoring attack with 13 points, while Izzy Karst added 6 to help seal the win. The second game of the week against Freeland followed a similar script early on. Swan Valley found itself down by one at halftime after another tight first half. However, the team once again responded with grit and determination. The Vikings exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Freeland 16-3 in a decisive stretch that shifted all momentum. Norah Jennings was outstanding during that run, pouring in 9 of those 16 points. Defensively, Swan Valley was just as impressive, allowing only 9 total second-half points. Emily Krantz anchored the defensive effort with relentless intensity, helping shut down Freeland’s scoring opportunities. Norah Jennings finished with a tremendous all-around performance, tallying 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Olivia Randall matched her with 11 points of her own, continuing to demonstrate poise and strong decision-making throughout the game. Alaina Lafond also stepped up late, helping Olivia handle defensive pressure with confident guard play to close out the win. With two more victories added to their record, the Swan Valley JV girls continue to show resilience, balanced scoring, and strong defensive commitment—qualities that are fueling an exciting and successful season.
