The Swan Valley JV girls basketball team put together another impressive week, earning two hard-fought victories over Alma High School and cross-town rival Freeland High School.
In their first matchup against Alma, the Vikings battled through a slow start in the opening half. Despite the early offensive struggles, the girls stayed composed and came out of halftime with renewed energy and focus. Key assists from Norah Jennings sparked the offense, while Olivia Randall’s leadership and smart decision-making set the tone for the turnaround. Swan Valley dominated the second half on both ends of the floor to secure a 35-25 victory. Olivia Randall led the scoring attack with 13 points, while Izzy Karst added 6 to help seal the win.
The second game of the week against Freeland followed a similar script early on. Swan Valley found itself down by one at halftime after another tight first half. However, the team once again responded with grit and determination. The Vikings exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Freeland 16-3 in a decisive stretch that shifted all momentum. Norah Jennings was outstanding during that run, pouring in 9 of those 16 points.
Defensively, Swan Valley was just as impressive, allowing only 9 total second-half points. Emily Krantz anchored the defensive effort with relentless intensity, helping shut down Freeland’s scoring opportunities. Norah Jennings finished with a tremendous all-around performance, tallying 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Olivia Randall matched her with 11 points of her own, continuing to demonstrate poise and strong decision-making throughout the game. Alaina Lafond also stepped up late, helping Olivia handle defensive pressure with confident guard play to close out the win.
With two more victories added to their record, the Swan Valley JV girls continue to show resilience, balanced scoring, and strong defensive commitment—qualities that are fueling an exciting and successful season.

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring three Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Kaydence Walsh (Varsity Girls Basketball), Alaina LaFond (JV Girls Basketball), and Kaylen Obendorfer (JV Girls Basketball) for earning this prestigious award!
Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:
"Kaydence has earned Athlete of the Week through her consistent hard work, positive attitude, and commitment to her team. She shows up every day ready to improve, pushes herself in practice, and supports her teammates on and off the court. Her willingness to learn and her drive to keep getting better make her a great example of what it means to be a team player."
"Alaina has been working hard each week for our JV team. She has played a huge role in the success of our season. Alaina plays many minutes for us and is asked to do many things for our team. Alaina is always up for the task and it showed this last Monday in our game against MLS. Alaina had a great game leading the way against a very tough and disciplined team. She led the way with 10 of our 35 points, helping her team secure the win."
"Kaylen had a great week for us this past week in games against MLS and Ithaca. Kaylen continues to work hard at practice everyday and her post play has improved significantly this year. She maintains a positive attitude whether she starts a game or not. This past week against MLS she was asked to start the game and also guard their best post player. Kaylen did a fantastic job! She also lead the team in rebounds with 12."

Time is running out to submit a senior tribute for the yearbook! These are due on the 13th. See attached flyer for more details.

The Swan Valley JV Lady Vikings had a strong week, starting Monday with a hard-fought 35-30 win over Michigan Lutheran Seminary. The girls battled from start to finish against a very well-rounded and disciplined team. Alaina Lafond led the team offensively with 10 points, stepping up when the team needed key baskets. Kaylen Obendorfer played an outstanding game in the post, controlling the boards and leading the team in rebounds with 12. Her physical presence inside made a big difference on both ends of the floor.
In their second matchup against Ithaca Tuesday, the SV Lady Vikes got off to a slow start but quickly found their rhythm and stepped on the gas. Once they settled in, the ball movement and decision-making were excellent. It was great to see every single player get into the scorebook — a true team effort. Gabby Price led the way with 13 points, followed closely by Olivia Randall with 12 and Poppy Weyand adding 11, leading the team to a 61-27 victory. Go Vikings!
VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of February 2nd)...
Swan Valley Athletics is honoring three Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Aiden Coven (Freshman Boys Basketball), Brayden Obendorfer (JV Boys Basketball), and Emily Krantz (JV Girls Basketball) for earning this prestigious award!
Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:
"With two weeks left in the season, if I had to choose a Most Improved Player, it would be Aiden Coven. His growth as a student-athlete, basketball player, and competitor has been night and day. What stands out most about Aiden is his mindset—no matter the situation or challenge he faces, he never seems fazed. He shows up every day ready to work, attacking each practice and every opportunity with energy, determination, and a big grin on his face. His positive attitude and consistent effort have made a tremendous impact on both his own development and our team as a whole."
"Brayden displays great sportsmanship. He works extremely hard at practice and during every game. He is respectful to all coaching staff as well as his peers. He shows great leadership qualities and is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is an all around great kid and I enjoy coaching him this season."
"Emily has a phenomenal work ethic and always strives to do her best. She is constantly trying to improver her game. Emily is someone we rely on defensively and has a nose for the basketball. Emily works hard everyday in practice and always has a positive attitude. If something doesn't go her way, instead of getting down on herself, she uses it as motivation to improve. She is a great example for other teammates and is a true competitor. "
