VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of April 13th)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring 4 Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Byron Wilson (Varsity Boys Lacrosse), Max Miller (Varsity Boys Lacrosse), Olivia Randall (Varsity Girls Soccer and Track), and Izzy Coffel (Varsity Softball) for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their nominators had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

"Byron is a team captain and continues to show the leadership on and off the field for our Lacrosse team. Scored 3 goals to lead us to victory vs John Glenn on 4-14. His attitude and effort is hands down one of the best players I have had in 30+ years of coaching. He continues to lead this team in the right direction."

"Max was a leading force for the lacrosse team this week. Our leading goal scorer put in another 13 this week to lead us to victory over John Glenn twice and 3 more wins in our home showcase to lead us, bringing home the North South Showcase trophy for the first time ever. Max is a captain and shows why on the game field and practice field. Brings 120% to everything he does. None can lead a team better then he can and he has led us to 8-2 start which is the best start of Wolves Lacrosse that I can find."

"As if two sports wasn't enough, Liv is competing in 3 sports. To make it more impressive? She's excelling in all three of them. To do what she's doing is nothing short of amazing. She went all the way to Nebraska and came home with a first place finish and qualified for the World's meet in South Africa. To make it even better? She's an amazing kid! "

"Izzy demonstrates what hard work and heart is all about. She excels in the classroom, softball field and the powerlifting platform. She competed her heart out and came home with a 3rd place finish at a National powerlifting meet and qualified for the world's competition in South Africa. Way to represent Swan Valley Izzy!"

"Izzy is a standout shortstop, she is one of our anchors defensively with great range, and a strong arm. At the plate this week, against rival Freeland, she went 4-7 providing some great quality at bats. She also proved her strength beyond softball, traveling to Nebraska and placing 3rd in the nation in powerlifting—a testament to her all-around athleticism and drive."

VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of April 6th)...

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring its first 3 Viking Athletes of the Week for the spring season. Congratulations to Keegan Jackson (JV Baseball), Keegan Toner (JV Baseball), and Kaydence Walsh (Varsity Girls Soccer) for earning this prestigious award!

Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:

Keegan “Chuck” Jackson (Freshman)
"Left handed hurler got his second win of the early season against Beal city on Thursday. Pitched 4 innings and struck out 8 for his first shutout of the season . In 2 starts he has given up 0 earned runs, walked only 3 batters, and struck out a total of 13 batters faced."

Keegan “Bone” Toner (Sophomore)
"Sophomore shortstop was red hot at the plate this week. Keegan had a total of 7 hits this week, had 6 RBI's and scored 6 runs to lead the JV team offensively. He also played a solid shortstop defensively. He is also Mrs. Ray's favorite Geometry B student! 😄"

"Kaydence Walsh is a tremendous example of what it means to be a true student-athlete. She currently maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while serving as a key player for the team as goalkeeper. In just 3.5 games in goal, Kaydence has recorded 18 saves, demonstrating strong instincts, toughness, and determination between the posts. Her dedication to the team goes beyond the stat sheet. While making a fearless play to stop a goal with her hands, Kaydence suffered an injury that caused her to miss the following game. Despite being sidelined, she still made the trip to Standish on a Saturday morning to support and cheer on her teammates, showing incredible commitment and team spirit. Kaydence is not only an outstanding athlete but also an exceptional student and a positive influence on those around her. She represents the values of hard work, perseverance, and leadership both on the field and in the classroom. Congratulations, Kaydence Walsh, on being nominated as an Outstanding Athlete of the Week! ⚽🥅"

The Lady Vikings traveled to Standish today to take on the undefeated Standish-Sterling Panthers. We arrived without our starting goalie, Kaydence Walsh, who suffered an injury the week before, but Olivia Randall stepped up and took on the challenge in goal.

The Vikings got on the board early with a quick goal by Olivia Horwarth. The Panthers answered back with 13:22 left in the first half, but shortly after Swan Valley’s Aeris Hickey powered one into the net to regain the lead and give the team the confidence it needed.

From that moment on, the Vikings never looked back, finishing the game strong with an 8–3 win.

Stat leaders:

⚽ Stella Frantz – 2 goals, 3 assists

⚽ Jaidyn Rethman - 1 goal
⚽ Kinsey Kaul – 2 goals
⚽ Aeris Hickey – 1 goal
⚽ Olivia Horwarth – 1 goal
⚽ Lily Garza – 1 goal
⚽ Emily Krantz – 3 assists
⚽ Zoey Stiener – 1 assist
🧤 Olivia Randall – 1 assist, 6 saves in goal

Great team effort and a big road win for the Lady Vikings!
