The 7th Grade Viking Boys Basketball teams were back in action this week against Alma and Ithaca. The B team started the week off with a thrilling game that saw Jameson Malacos hit a game-tying buzzer beater to force overtime. Unfortunately, the Panthers outlasted the Viking B team 39-38. The Viking B team was led by Colten Ray who recorded a Double- Double with 17 pts and 11 rebs. The Viking A team was tested by the Alma A team, but prevailed 41-38 in part to Sawyer Murphy's 19 pts and 14 rebounds. Mason Wilson also played a pivotal role with stellar defense and 6 clutch points which propelled the Viking A team to victory. On Wednesday, the YellowJackets of Ithaca came to SVMS and were stymied by the both 7th Grade Viking teams. The B team won 40-24 thanks in part to a three- headed monster- Carmelo Casas, Ryder Root, and Maurice Villegas who all scored around 10 points. This improved the B team to 3-2 on the season. The Viking A team dominated from start to finish 54-31, they were led by Matthew Moeller who had 20 pts and 18 rebounds and Griffin Beougher who led the point exquisitely. The win moved the Viking A team to 7-1 on the season. Also a huge thanks to our 30 6th graders who participated in 6th Grade Boys Basketball Night. The event was a huge success as the young boys went through drills, scrimmages, and games with support from our older players in the program. After playing, all of them were given complimentary pizza/soda and were able to support our Viking 7th grade teams for free. Go Vikings!

Well, the eighth grade A team had a tough, tough week this past week with double digit losses to both Alma and Ithaca. Fischer Stoney was the leading scorer in both games, scoring six against Alma and 10 versus Ithaca. Gavin Charboneau had 9 and Dom Esparza 8 in the 59-44 loss to Ithaca. Riley Kosanovich, Cooper Habina, and James Lemay had two buckets a piece in the 49-25 loss to Alma. The B team only had one game last week and they suffocated the Alma Panthers for a 45--22 victory. Landen Whelton was the game's high scorer with 11, while Blake Cupp had 8 and Cam Curbery 7. Great job guys. The guys host Bullock Creek Monday night and travel to Standish on Wednesday night.

The eighth grade basketball team got their season started this week with two games against Hemlock and a Wednesday night game v. Nouvel. The Vikings cruised to a win v. Nouvel on Wednesday winning 49-27. Every Viking scored in the contest, but the squad was led by Cooper Habina and Keller Bedford with 14 and 13 respectively. The B team lost a close one to Hemlock on Thursday night due to an ice cold fourth quarter. They surrendered a 5 point lead and lost by 2, 32-30. Cam Curbey had a strong first game for the Vikings with ten points and was outstanding on defense as well. Riley Kosanovich poured in six points in the effort. The A team got revenge for their teammates in the nightcap, beating Hemlock 37-28. Dom Esparza scored six and played an all around solid game. Fischer Stoney and James Lemay set the tone on defense and scored four points a piece. The A team hosts a tough Garber team on Monday at 5:30.
