Swan Valley Athletics is honoring three Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Izzy Karst (JV Girls Basketball), Makayla Taylor (Varsity Girls Basketball), and Shiloh Charboneau (Varsity Girls Basketball) for earning this prestigious award!
Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:
"Izzy is a second year JV player and is a true inspiration to her teammates. Izzy is a team player and is willing to take on any role to make the team better. Izzy comes to every practice, and plays every game with a positive attitude and smile on her face. Izzy always gives her best effort in practice and will give 100 percent when called upon to enter the game. She is the definition of a true team player."
"Makayla demonstrated strong leadership as a captain, leading the team with her scoring and overall presence on the court. In overtime, she made a heads-up defensive play, coming up with a huge steal that helped secure the win. Her awareness and effort were key in the victory."
"Shiloh continues to lead by example as a captain, bringing constant energy and toughness on both ends of the floor. She played stellar defense, contributed key scoring, and stepped up in the biggest moments by knocking down huge free throws in overtime. Her leadership and composure made a major impact on the game."

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring its first Viking Athletes of the Week for 2026. Congratulations to Poppy Weyand (JV Girls Basketball), Ella Holnagel (Varsity Girls Bowling), and Alex Schram (Varsity Wrestling) for earning this prestigious award!
Here is what their coaches had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:
"Poppy has had an amazing start to her first year of high school basketball! In our first 6 games, she has averaged 11 points per game, with her highest scoring game against Frankenmuth at 15 points. Poppy scores most of her points with solid defense, creating turnovers, and just causing havoc for other teams. More importantly, Poppy is eager to learn and does so with an incredibly positive attitude. I am very proud of her attitude, love for the game, and being a positive."
"Ella has been bowling very well for the past 2 weeks. She also shows great sportsmanship not to just her teammates but to other teams."
"Alex recorded his 100th career pin on Saturday. That is a tremendous achievement that reflects all the work he has put into the sport."
Viking Pride!

Athletic Events for Monday, January 19th...
Due to the weather and unsafe road conditions, tonight's JV and Varsity Girls Basketball Games at North Branch have been cancelled. The 7th Grade Boys Basketball Games @ Alma and the home 8th Grade Boys Basketball Games at Swan Valley Middle School have also been cancelled.

Please advise.
The Lady Vikings had an exciting challenge against the Lady Eagles and came out on top with a final score of 19-11. Contributing to that win were the 155 and 156 games bowled by Ella Holnagel, a 129 by Scarlet Hubinger, and a 139 by Zoe Ecker.
The Viking Boys faced a tough Eagles team and unfortunately ended the day with a score of 1-29 but not without a great 174 game by Max Fleming and a 138 game by Cayden Napora.
We will be at Valley Lanes again next Saturday at 8 AM to take on Alma. Once again, seating is limited. GO VIKINGS!
Way to go Alex!
