The district semifinal vs. Freeland was an exciting one to watch. The Vikings came out strong and took an early lead, but by halftime, the game was tied 3–3.
The team gave it everything they had. Although the game didn’t end the way we planned, the girls—especially the seniors, left every bit of energy on the field. They walked off with their heads held high, knowing they gave it their all.
Seniors, know this: you will be missed and never forgotten.
Game stats:
* Goalkeeper Kaydence Walsh: 10 saves
* Stella Frantz: 4 shots, 1 goal, 1 assist
* Jaidyn Rethman: 3 shots, 2 goals
* Senior Kinsey Kaul: 1 assist
* Senior Eve Schicht: 1 shot
* Lily Garza: 1 shot
Special recognition for the defensive line: Zoe Ecker, Olivia Randall, Olivia Horwath, Senior Lexi Ittner, and Lily Garza.
Senior Zoey Stiener — glad to see you back on the sideline, and wishing you a fast recovery.
Congratulations on a great game and an incredible season.

Swan Valley Athletics is honoring three Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Jaidyn Rethman (Varsity Girls Soccer), Noah Smith (JV Baseball), and Nick Bauer (JV Baseball) for earning this prestigious award!
Here is what their nominators had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:
"Jaidyn Rethman has had a great varsity soccer season. She’s a natural leader, a team captain, and someone her teammates look to on and off the field. Jaidyn has stepped into different positions throughout the season and has handled each one without hesitation, always doing what’s best for the team. This has really been a breakout year for her. Playing mostly in defensive midfield and defense, she may not always have standout stats, but her impact is easy to see. She works hard, communicates well, and brings a level of consistency that the team relies on every game and every practice. Off the field, Jaidyn is just as impressive. She carries a 4.0 GPA and is involved in several community service activities. It’s hard to believe she’s only a sophomore; she plays with the confidence and presence of an upperclassman and continues to set the tone for her team. Congratulations, Jaidyn! Well deserved!"
"Noah Smith is primarily our outfielder, and when he plays, we often hear “we got a guy out there”, because when the ball is hit towards him, he always makes the catch. Noah also pitches for our team, and earned the win on the mound against Cass City on May 11. Our lefty surrendered only two hits and one run over four innings, striking out five. At the plate, he had a double and three RBI’s. On the season, he’s batting .500 with 33 hits and 26 RBIs."
"Nick “Nicky” Bauer also had quite a week, hitting his first home run of his freshman year! On the season, he’s batting.368 with 28 hits and 20 RBIs. Nick is a great teammate and his bat has really been on fire this second half of the season! "
Viking Pride!

The girls soccer team kicked off District play at home last week and never let up. Bullock Creek was on its heels most of the game as the Vikings controlled things from start to finish.
Kaydence Walsh came up big in net, earning the shutout. The back line of Zoe Ecker, Olivia Randall, Lexi Ittner, and Olivia Horwath put together a strong defensive effort to keep everything in front of them.
Lily Garza led the offense with 9 shots, 2 goals, and an assist. Stella Frantz added 9 shots with a goal and an assist. Olivia Horwath had 6 shots and an assist, Kinsey Kaul finished with 4 shots and a goal, and Emily Krantz added 5 shots and a goal. Zoe Ecker scored on her lone shot, Lexi Ittner picked up an assist, and Eve Schicht kept the pressure on with 9 shots.
The Vikings are back in action Wednesday, May 27th in the District Semifinal at Roberts Park against Freeland. Game time is 4:00 PM.
Come out and support your Lady Vikings.

VIKING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (WEEK of May 11th)...
Swan Valley Athletics is honoring four Viking Athletes of the Week from last week. Congratulations to Zoe Eckert (Varsity Girls Soccer), Jack Lagan (Varsity Baseball), Brayden Tracy (JV Baseball), and Andrew Carter (JV Baseball) for earning this prestigious award!
Here is what their nominators had to say about them fulfilling one or more of the Viking Athletic Core Values:
"Zoe is the kind of player every coach wants on their team. Even as a freshman, she’s already showing strong leadership qualities. She’s currently anchoring the Swan Valley defense—a role that isn’t her preferred position—but she shows up every day and owns it. Zoe gives her all at practice and in games, and she’s always there supporting her teammates. Because of her role on defense, her impact doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet, but anyone who watches her play can see just how valuable she is. Zoe is an exceptional athlete, a strong student, and truly fun to watch compete."
"Jack is a 4 year varsity baseball player and 2 year captain. Jack is having the best season of his career currently. He is leading the team in almost every offensive category and last week VS. Midland, Jack reached a baseball milestone, registering his 100th career hit. He is doing a great job mentoring the underclassmen while showcasing his versatility. He played first base last week, as well as, pitched. He normally catches and plays in the OF."
"Brayden had two outstanding starts for JV these past weeks. At Chesaning, he pitched a complete game with 0 Earned Runs, and struck out 9 of 14 batters faced. He was efficient with his pitches, only allowing one walk. Then, against Ovid Elsie, he came in in relief, once again allowing 0 Earned runs. On the season, he has walked only 12 batters and struck out 35 batters, earning himself a 1.421 ERA! In addition to his solid pitching, Brayden has a .368 batting average, with 14 hits on the season. Great job, Brayden!"
"Andrew has made outstanding gains in his catching technique, and has become a solid outfielder as well. Andrew even pitched an inning against Chesaning, which he hadn’t done since Little League! Drew has racked up 16 hits in the season, including several extra base hits. He has a solid .356 batting average. He’s thrown out 3 runners attempting to steal. We are very proud of the work he’s put in to make himself a great catcher!"
Viking Pride!

The night took a tough turn when Zoey Stiener suffered a season-ending injury with just minutes left in the game. Our thoughts are with Zoey and her family as she begins her recovery.
Showing her strength and commitment, Zoey was back on the sidelines Friday, supporting her team as they took on Ithaca at home. The Vikings battled from start to finish and earned a hard-fought win.
Team stats:
Emily Krantz – 1 goal
Kinsey Kaul – 1 goal
Lilly Garza – 1 goal
Sylvie Johnson – 1 assist
Cadence Raymond – 1 assist
Zoe Ecker – 1 assist
Congratulations to our seniors and the entire team.
