Swan Valley Student Fan Section

The current Swan Valley student fan section is much different than last year!  Unlike last year’s sports seasons, all students are allowed to attend the games.  The first home volleyball match against Birch Run had an incredible student section and was a great way to kick off the 2021 home matches for the Lady Vikings.  The Viking student section is led by seniors Mason Ferrier and Brandon Brandt, and junior Cody Ueberroth.  These three students have done an amazing job at leading and hyping up the Viking fan base with their school spirit.  The Volleyball Team even said that they feed off the student sections' energy in the games.

On the day of a home volleyball match or basketball game, students do not simply just show up for the event.  The students themselves organize a theme to dress up as while they cheer on the home team.  Some of the fan favorites are ‘Hawaii out’, ‘white out’,  and ‘PJ out’.

Senior Mason Ferrier said that he recently became one of the student section leaders at a home volleyball game.  Mason noticed that there was a big crowd and decided to start up some chants.  Ever since then, he shows up to every game, no matter home or away.  Coaches, players, and parents have also reached out to the student section telling them how much they appreciate them firing up the home team, especially in close games.

One of the biggest student sections that Swan Valley Volleyball had this year was a home game against rival Freeland.  The student section was packed to the top of the bleachers with the theme being a ‘white out'.  Everyone dressed in white to support the Lady Vikings! To coordinate the various themes for the night, Mason and the other student section leaders have set up an Instagram account and will post what the student section is to wear to the games.

Junior Cody Ueberroth says that they will be continuing to show their school spirit and Viking pride at the Varsity basketball games this winter.  They are excited to see who all will come out and support both the boys and girls squads.  Cody's favorite part of being a student section leader is coming up with fun chants, interacting with other schools, and waving the Swan Valley flag of course!  Both Cody Ueberroth and Mason Ferrier play on the Varsity Football Team and love it when the fans are cheering them on.  When not playing on the gridiron, they love to show their support back in the gymnasium!

From the Michigan State University games he has attended, Senior Mason Ferrier has been inspired by the MSU student fan section and the energy generated from all of their fans.  Mason says his goal as a student section leader is to hopefully get as many people to the games as possible because it helps with the players’ emotions when competing in their sport.  His favorite part of being the student section leader is how the students show their school spirit bringing the crowd to their feet!

If you haven’t been to a home Viking game or contest in a while, come out and show your Viking spirit and witness firsthand what the student fan section adds to the atmosphere for its fans and team!
