Bi-annually Swan Valley Middle School administers the MiPHY (Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth) to all 7th grade students (9th and 11th grade at the high school). The MiPHY is a scientific survey targeting student high risk behaviors (tobacco, alcohol and drug use, sexual behavior, home, community and school behaviors, etc…).
This is an informational night for parents to spur an open discussion about these issues with other parents and your student(s). We recommend being open and honest with your student regarding your attitude and expectations about these topics, rather than allowing them to learn from their peers or other sources (ie. Friends, social media, streaming services / TV / movies, etc…). To take the stance that “my kid doesn’t do these things” is unrealistic. Even though they might not be engaging in these behaviors their friends may be, and knowing how to react in uncomfortable situations is essential. Open lines of communication about these topics is the key. We invite you to join us at 6:30 in the middle school library to more so you can have an informed conversation with your student. Students are welcome to attend with their parents. Snacks will be served and scarfs will be handed out while supplies last.
